My Personal Bible Commentary
I believe that God wants to communicate with you and me. In 2007, at Strayer University, I taught a course called Introduction to Computer Networking. Our textbook said that data communication requires five things. These are: a sender, a receiver, a message, a medium and a protocol.
In the Holy Bible, God is using human language to communicate with us. God wants to send us a message. There is a heavenly message. It is composed of many sub messages, or data packets, if you don't mind me applying my data comm analogy. God can and will communicate with us through these ancient writings collected by human editors using human words and phrases if we open our minds to Him.
I believe we should pray that God will open our minds to receive only the correct impressions as we read the Bible. Some have surely read the Bible and gained nothing from the time spent. It is my hope that you gather positive impressions of God from reading my commentary. I believe God is love and God is good, all the time!
I make no claims to special education, insight or knowledge. So, I don't say that you should pay any special attention to my commentary. When I started this commentary, I thought I was creating a paraphrase. In July, 2008, I discovered that I should not use the word paraphrase to describe what I am doing here. That is because a paraphrase does not add any personal views to the text. I don't pretend to be so pure.
However, I have adopted a verse-by-verse format. In some cases I combined two verses into one, as I tried to maintain the flow of the thought. So, this is simply one more unique personal Bible commentary. These are my thoughts as I considered the words chosen by others to express their thoughts as they translated or paraphrased the Bible. These are my thoughts, frozen in time, at the time I put them in writing.
The act of paraphrase, or in this case commentary, is a vital human activity. True or false, good or bad, we each put what we see and hear through a filter. This filter grows in complexity every day. Every day, the experiences of that day add another layer to this filter. To interact with others is to exchange bits of filter material with them.
By listening to other people and talking to other people, we refine and develop those filters through which we see our world. That is why I have chosen to put my commentary here, online, where you can see it and read it. If you read it, you read it because you choose to read it. If you choose, you may read it and ponder what it was in my experience that caused me to think these particular thoughts and choose the particular words you see here.
I have told a few of my close friends about this project. If you are one of these friends, you have found me! Please be kind! If not, remember you can leave these pages just as easy as stay. It is possible, this commentary is not meant for you! If you find them interesting or useful, even positive and stimulating, good. If so, I hope and pray it is because God has a message for you in these pages.
I started this project in 2007. As of April, 2008, I have done a tiny bit of Genesis and about nine chapters of Proverbs. Portions that I have not done simply show as blank pages.
I am not asking for your feedback. But, if you feel you must contact me, look around on my various websites and you will soon find my contact information.
Again, the main thing is to accept this as one person's personal commentary. It is typical of what I think and feel as I read the Bible. Indeed, it is what I was thinking and feeling when I paraphrased the corresponding Biblical passage.
