User's Procedure to Add a Web Page

The primary purpose of a content management system (CMS) is to allow you to easily change content. But, when working with web content, you want to be able to add and change web pages.

When learning the Cy Think CMS, you probably want to learn how to change a web page before you progress to learning how to add a web page. So, if you don't know how to change a page using the CMS, why don't you learn that first? Here is the link.

User's Procedure to Change a Web Page

Use of these procedures is controlled by an access control system. You must be signed on and have appropriate authorization to execute these procedures.

Overview of the Procedure for Adding a Web Site Page

  1. Select a name for the page.
  2. Make the page buildable and the content file editable.
  3. Add content to the file. See User's Procedure to Change a Web Page
  4. If needed, create a menu. See Menu Maintenance Procedures
  5. If desired, add the page to a menu. See Menu Maintenance Procedures
  6. Build the page. User's Procedure to Change a Web Page
  7. View the page and make changes as needed.

Pages created using these procedures will "exist" on the site but will not automatically appear in menus, links, etc. To make a page appear in a menu, you need to follow another procedure. Here is the link.

Menu Maintenance Procedures

To link to a page from another page, create a standard HTML "anchor" tag. (This is an advanced feature, unless you know HTML.)

Select a Name for a New Page

Select a name for a new page that is unique. You can do this when you go to the List of Buildable Pages which list all HTML files in the website. You may want to prefix all the pages you create with your initials or some other short code. This will both help you keep your pages together and make it easier to keep the filenames unique. Please follow this rule carefully. It is very easy to create a "royal" mess.

Note that in the Cy Think CMS, the basic filename is significant and the suffix is used by the system in a special way. In addition to .htm and .txt, the .mta suffix is used on the file that holds the key words.

Make the HTM Page Buildable and the Source File Editable

  1. Click "Pages". Select "Buildable Pages Add / Remove" and click "Continue".
  2. Check that the filename is unique.
  3. Enter the page file name, including the .htm in the text box at the bottom of the table
  4. Click "Update File List".
  5. Click "Re-publish HTML".
  6. Select the page in the list and click "Publish HTML".
  7. Click "Pages". Select "Add Editable Files (based on HTML files)" and click "Continue".
  8. Select the text file name and click "Update File List". Leave other txt files that are already checked.
  9. You will now be able to edit and publish the page.
