Administrator's Guide to Parameters

Although changes to the CMS parameters are typically infrequent, the CMS user / administrator has the powerful ability to change parameter values at any time. This facility is accessed using the Parms button in the Action Menu. You must be signed on to access this function.

There are six groups of parameters. The first five groups are intended to be manipulated by administrators and advanced users. These parameters are documented on the following pages:

Administrator's Guide to Debug Parameters

Administrator's Guide to Page Parameters

Administrator's Guide to Query Parameters

Administrator's Guide to Ring Parameters

Administrator's Guide to Site Parameters

The remaining group of parameter is intended for use by the programmer. These are the internal parameters. See this link:

Programmer's Guide to Internal Parameters

The Parameter Hierarchy

  1. The basic default parameters are determined by JshPARM.pm.
  2. These are superseded according to the values in sysparms.txt. The values that you see on the Parms page are the combination of the values in JshPARM and the values in sysparms.txt. The values on the Parms page define the "site".
  3. An additional level is planned that will further refine the applicable parms by urer type.
  4. Rings and albums have values that extend the parm values but apply to all pages in the ring or album.
  5. Parameter specifications in individual txt files apply only to related sub pages.

These notes are intented to explain the contents of the above documentation pages.
